Love Got Wrong

I observed a very close young man to be downcast recently, and tried to know why. He said he felt all of rash, stupid, humiliated and heartbroken for acting 'wrongly' on a text message from a girl. The girl had written: "Call me please. I love you". The man claimed that the love text was pleasantly surprising to him, and this made him phone the girl back immediately to confirm that she actually loved him. The girl answered in the affirmative. This man was happy, reassuring himself that a 21-year old girl in college should know what she was doing. According to him, he developed deep love for the girl in return, particularly for being bold and unpretentious. Meanwhile, they kept exchanging phone calls and texts until after 2 months when the girl returned from school, and visited the man. The love-struck man was so carried away that he hugged and kissed the girl immediately she came in. That was the beginning of the man's confusion, as the girl seemed to be moody thereafter. When the man enquired about the sudden change in mood, reminding her that she had claimed to love him, the girl said that it was the ordinary non-amorous love she had meant. It is pertinent to mention that this man had been very careful of falling into any deep love affair again after a betrayal by a former girlfriend several years back. Now, history seems to have played out itself again. Who is at fault - the man or the girl? I think both of them shared the blame. The girl, it was eventually discovered, had used a mobile operator’s pre-prepared text that was meant for use by amorous lovers and family members. If she was neither of them, she should not have used the text. At the other extreme is the possibility that the girl had actually meant amorous love for the man, but changed her mind later. As for the man, he should have behaved more cautiously. The “cold-blood” hug and kiss could have turned the girl off. Honestly, I learnt a great lesson from the experience of this man. I recently received the exact text from a happily and responsibly married woman. I rightly did not read any amorous meaning into the text, knowing full well that the woman had innocently chosen a wrong text code. How we learn everyday!
