Living with the Bad Sides of Modern Inventions

There is this joke in my area that the white man was created first before others. After his own creation, the whiteman was spying on God to see how He was creating others. That explains why the whiteman is very inventive, creative and developed. However, because he was stealing the creative skills from God, the whiteman could not afford to ask God certain vital questions. This accounts for the imperfections that are inherent in the whiteman's inventions and creations. The whiteman's power of science and technology has immensely uplifted the world to the level it has attained today. There have been advancements in medicine, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, the computer system including the internet, telecommunications, warfare, spacecraft, etc. Unfortunately, we have had to pay a price for these life-changing creations. Such a price have included environmental degradation, mass deaths from accidents and other non-natural causes, cancer and other drug-defying diseases which have come along with some of the inventions. For instance, there have been claims and counter-claims concerning mobile phone users being prone to cancer. Whatever be the case, we can't run away from such a life-easing gadget as mobile phones. If the "whiteman" is able to counter the cancer-giving side effect of the use of mobile phones, good for us. If not, too bad. Mobile phones have come to stay even if we have to contend with shorter lives! Afterall, life is losing some, gaining some. |
