Cyber Friendship
Social networking sites are a good source of generating friendships and even amorous relationships. There, you have a large array of potential friends to pick from, whether through prior probes into their profiles or in a blind fashion. With this great opportunity of making virtual friends afforded by the internet, the world has truly become a global village, with greater levels of inter-racial and intercontinental understandings taking firmer roots. Cyber friends are not much different from their physical offline counterparts in such areas as sharing, feelings, intimacy, trust and reciprocal assistance. The only thing that stands online socializing out is the lack of physical touch, which could also apply to a formerly physically present friend who has now relocated to a distant foreign land. This lack of physical touch is felt only when there is the need for pyhsical company or touch on occasion. Cyber friendship could even be more exciting than the physical one, as absence makes the heart grow fonder while familiarity of physical presence breeds contempt. However, cyber friendship requires a special kind of care to avoid being hurt by fake friends, using the cover of the limitations of the internet. Whether you are exchanging mails, chatting or phoning, there is no way to see if the person at the other end is truly smiling, crying, frowning, or showing the emotions suggested by the texts, especially if webcams are not employed. While this problem of true identity is not limited to cyber relationships alone, it is much easier to detect in the physical counterparts, particularly if contacts are frequent.
